Feb. 17, 2024 by AirfieldNews

This expansion positions flydubai as the first UAE national carrier to offer direct flights to Basel in Switzerland, along with Riga in Latvia, Tallinn in Estonia, and Vilnius in Lithuania, marking a significant milestone in the airline's history.

As of 15 February 2024, flydubai's network in Europe will encompass 43 destinations across 21 countries, signaling a robust growth strategy and commitment to connecting diverse regions with Dubai. The new routes not only extend flydubai's reach into the Baltic region but also introduce direct flights to EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, starting from 02 August 2024. Flights to the Baltic capitals of Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius are scheduled to commence in October 2024

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, expressed pride in the network's expansion, highlighting the airline's role in connecting previously underserved destinations with Dubai.

""Our new services to the Baltic region and Basel will enable more people to travel conveniently through Dubai’s aviation hub, whether they are visiting Dubai or connecting onto the flydubai network or further with Emirates,""

said Al Ghaith.

Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-commerce at flydubai, reiterated the importance of Europe to the airline's strategic vision. The addition of these four cities underscores flydubai's dedication to offering a convenient and high-quality travel experience. Efendi emphasized the opportunity for travelers from Europe to explore Dubai and beyond, including popular destinations like Malaysia, the Maldives, and Thailand.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg serves as a unique trinational gateway, offering access to tourist attractions in Switzerland, France, and Germany. Basel, known as Switzerland's cultural capital, boasts an impressive array of museums and architectural gems. Meanwhile, the capitals of the Baltic states, each a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offer rich history and stunning architecture.

flydubai plans to operate its latest aircraft on these routes, featuring lie-flat seats and internationally-inspired menus in Business Class, and optimally designed seats for comfort in Economy Class.

The airline will operate flights from Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport (DXB), with Emirates codesharing on these routes. This partnership further enhances connectivity through Dubai's international aviation hub.

Fares for these new destinations have been announced, with return Business Class and Economy Class Lite fares available from Dubai to each city and vice versa. These competitive rates aim to make travel more accessible and appealing to a broad range of travelers.

flydubai's expansion into Europe reflects its ongoing efforts to bridge distances and create new travel opportunities, reinforcing its position as a dynamic and forward-thinking airline in the international aviation community.
