Latvian national carrier airBaltic has reported a robust start to 2024, with a notable 19% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers for February, reaching 277,800 travelers. This growth is especially significant during the winter season, a period typically characterized by a dip in travel demand. The airline also increased its flight operations by 11%, conducting 2,840 flights in February alone, demonstrating its commitment to expanding service and connectivity.

Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, emphasized the airline's solid performance in the early months of 2024, with over half a million passengers served, reinforcing its status as the preferred airline in the Baltic region. Gauss highlighted the airline's strategic focus on expanding its fleet and destination network, which has garnered substantial interest from travelers. Currently operating over 130 routes, airBaltic is enhancing its global reach from its home bases more than ever before.

Looking ahead to the summer season, airBaltic plans to introduce 15 new routes, including seven from Latvia, three from Estonia, four from Lithuania, and one from Tampere, Finland. Additionally, the airline will increase flight frequencies on several popular routes, further broadening its appeal to passengers seeking diverse travel options.

The airline's strategic expansion and operational success have culminated in an all-time record profit of EUR 34 million for 2023, with more than 4.5 million passengers carried and over 44,000 flights conducted throughout the year. airBaltic's operations span a wide range of destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region, supported by a fleet of 47 Airbus A220-300 aircraft—one of the youngest fleets in Europe.

airBaltic has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, earning numerous international awards, including consecutive accolades from Skytrax as the best airline in its region and recognition from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for diversity and inclusion efforts. In 2023, airBaltic also received the APEX Passenger Choice Award for Best Cabin Service in Europe, further solidifying its reputation as a leading and respected airline on the international stage.
