TweetAmerican Airlines is poised to become the sole U.S. airline to offer direct connections between New York and Tokyo, with the launch of daily flights to the Japanese capital slated for June. This development follows the U.S. authorities' approval of the route, a significant addition to the Fort Worth-based carrier's offerings, connecting John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) with Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
Scheduled to commence on 28 June, the new service will utilize Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, enhancing American Airlines' international flight portfolio. "American is eager to begin operating between JFK and Haneda this summer," stated Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning. He highlighted that the service aims to augment the existing flights provided by Japan Airlines, American's partner in the OneWorld alliance, thereby offering customers additional options for travel between the U.S. and Japan.
Japan Airlines currently operates two daily flights connecting JFK with Haneda, facilitating seamless travel between these major cities. American's introduction of the New York-Tokyo route will expand the airline's operations to Haneda, adding to its existing services that include a daily flight from Dallas-Fort Worth and two daily flights from Los Angeles.
This expansion is part of a broader collaboration between American Airlines and Japan Airlines, designed to significantly enhance connectivity between the continental U.S. and Japan. Next summer, the joint business partnership is expected to provide customers with up to 17 daily flights to Japan, featuring 10 daily services to Haneda, offering unparalleled access and convenience for travelers navigating between these two nations.
